Synthtopia reports that Steinberg is commemorating three decades since the VST standard debuted by making a bundle of legacy plugins available at no cost. The company has packaged five of its early virtual instruments and effects into a single download that celebrates the milestone.
The free Steinberg Classics Collection includes Neon, a virtual analog synth first shipped with Cubase VST 3.7; VB-1, a bass‑focused virtual instrument; Model E, formerly known as CS‑40, which offers polyphonic synthesis; LM‑7, a drum machine that relies on sampled sounds; and Karlette, a tape‑delay effect unit. Each of these tools reflects a different facet of the company’s early VST lineup.
All five plugins are supplied in the modern VST3 format and have been updated to run on today’s Windows and macOS operating systems. The collection can be downloaded for free and works on both platforms without additional cost.
